The Full Story

In 2025, we held our inaugural story telling event which was widely attended and received.   Considered a cultural essential, verbal storytelling has served as a way to share everything from oral history to comedy and satire.

This year's event kicks off on Saturday, May 16 with PAC collaborating with the Friends of Pamlico Public Library to host an engaging, interactive children’s storytelling hour  at the Pamlico Public Library in Alliance, NC.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Meet the Authors  & Book Signing at the Oriental Town Hall.

Local and Regional authors onsite includes  Amber Harr, Amy Koehn, Dawn Gibson, Diana BottoneKevin Duffus,  Joan Aubele,  Julie Lombard, and Mary Scott.

Registration for workshops taking place is recommended but not required. The first 45-minute breakout session will be: Memoir Writing 101: Everyone Has a Story by Dawn Gibson at 10a. The second session will cover: AI in Writing by Zac Schnell of Pamlico Community College at 1p.  These will both take place at the Mariposa Bakery and Wine Bar in Oriental.

Storytime Under the Magnolia will be a storytelling event suitable for all ages with acclaimed storyteller Donna Washington at 2 p.m. at Magnolia House in Oriental. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets.  Magnolia House will generously provide light refreshments.

Dawn Gibson will be sharing riveting personal stories from her brand new book (we hope to have first editions hot off the press). Heartwarming and inspirational, she speaks to triumphing over loss.  Kevin Duffus, a real-life history detective, researcher, filmmaker, and author of works like Last Days of Blackbeard the Pirate and The Lost Light, will be our Featured Author. He is set to share insights about his writing journey and experiences at the outdoor lounge area of Gretchen’s Bistro in Oriental. Having appeared on a segment of Josh Gates’ Expedition Unknown, this is a talk you definitely won’t want to miss.  Both these authors will be presenting at Gretchen’s Bistro between 2 and 5 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the excitement continues at Oriental Town Hall with a Author Panel discussion exploring various publishing methods along with their advantages and disadvantages.

The Art of Storytelling, the highlight of the celebration, will conclude the day with a lively gathering showcasing alternating performances by captivating storytellers. This event is scheduled from 6-8 p.m., at the Old Theater in Oriental.
